Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Licence Training and Assessment

Train to get your Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Licence

Gain entry into the transport industry with your MR Licence and work with confidence.

You’ll be trained by an experienced RMS Accredited instructor/HVCBA assessor.

We offer two course options:

What vehicles can I drive with a MR Licence?

You will be licenced to drive:

  • heavy vehicles with 2 axles

  • bus or truck with mass greater than 8 tonnes with a trailer that has a gross vehicle mass less than 9 tonnes

  • LR vehicles.

Employment potential

With an MR licence, you’ll be able to gain work doing:

  • freight deliveries

  • removal work

  • driving car carriers

  • coach and bus driving.

Load restraint training included

Your MR truck driver training includes high-quality and reliable solutions for restraining loads to ensure safety for everyone and your freight or load. You will learn everything you need from start to finish to gain your load restraint ticket. See more about load restraint training.

Course requirements

Upgrading to an MR license requires you to:

  • have held your car licence for a continuous period of 12 months

  • complete the heavy vehicle knowledge test with NSW Transport.

1. Full-Training MR Truck License

Most students complete the course in five hours. On completion of the course, you need to pass a practical driving test. Depending on assessor availability, the HVCBA driving assessment can be done on the same day.

Course duration

Six hours of training and assessment, potential to complete within one day, or split over multiple days.

How much does our MR License Full-Training cost?

Course fees: From $1100.00 per person conditions apply

Can’t pay the full fee up front? Course can be taken in hourly blocks and paid for incrementally only in Armidale

2. Fast-track MR Truck Licence Not Available

For trainees who have a LR licence and some previous experience, NETA offers access to an intensive training session to get your skills polished and up-to-speed, followed by a driving assessment with the RMS that you need to pass.

3 hours of training and assessment, potential to complete within one day, or split over multiple days.

Location: Armidale only

Course fees: From $700.00 per person.
