✔ Getting started as a learner driver

You need to be 16 years or older to get your learner driver licence. Go to a Service NSW Centre (see the Service Centre locator) to prove your identity and pass a Driver Knowledge Test (DKT).

Once you have your learner driver licence, you need to log your driving experience, including night driving, in your learner driver log book.

✔ Earn bonus hours for your log book

By taking driving lessons with us, you'll earn more hours for your log book. A learner driver can record 3 hours of driving experience in their log book for every hour completed with our fully licensed driving instructor – up to 30 driven hours.

Ready to take your driving test?

You must successfully complete the Hazard Perception Test before taking a driving test.

To be eligible for the Hazard Perception test:

• Learners under the age of 25 must have held the licence for at least 10 months.

• Learners over 25 years old are not required to have held their learner licence for at least 10 months.

• Once you have held your learner licence for 12 months and successfully completed the Hazard Perception Test, you must pass a driving test to progress to a Provisional P1 licence.
