Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence Training and Assessment

Gain your Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Unrestricted or Auto/Synchro License

Enter the transport industry with your HR truck driver licence and work with confidence!

You’ll be trained by an experienced RMS Accredited instructor/HVCBA assessor.

We offer two training options:

  1. Unrestricted HR Truck Training Course

  2. HR Automatic Synchro (Condition B) Truck Training Course

What vehicles can you drive with an HR licence?

An HR vehicle is a bus or truck (including a prime mover or mobile crane) with over 8 tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) with 3 or more axles.

Your HR Licence will permit you to drive a heavy vehicle that has:

  • three or more axles

  • gross vehicle mass greater than 8 tonnes

  • towed trailer with a gross vehicle mass less than 9 tonnes.

You’ll also be licensed to drive a MR or LR vehicle.

Course requirements

Upgrading to an HR licence requires you to:

  • have held your car license for a continuous period of 24 months or a LR or MR licence for a continuous period of 12 months.

  • complete the heavy vehicle theory test with NSW Transport Roads and Maritime Service (RMS)

Load restraint training included

Your MR truck driver training includes high-quality and reliable solutions for restraining loads to ensure safety for everyone and your freight or load. You will learn everything you need from start to finish to gain your load restraint ticket.

  1. HR Truck Licence — Unrestricted Truck Training Course

Most students complete the course in six hours. If you need additional training hours you can do this prior to the practical text for an extra cost. On completion of the course, you need to pass a practical driving assessment with our HVCBA assessor.

Course duration: 7 hours with additional training at an hourly rate.

2. HR Automatic Synchro (Condition B) Truck Training Course

What is Condition B?

Condition B is a restriction on your licence that means you are only licenced to drive an automatic or Synchromesh auto gear box vehicles. Condition B restricts licence holders from driving HR vehicles with a road ranger gearbox.

We have two choices of HR vehicles for your training:

  1. Fitted with an auto gear box

  2. Straight 10 speed manual transmission.

Either option will give you a HR (Condition B) licence.

Course duration: 6 hours or in hourly blocks to suit your budget (pay by the hour). If you need additional training hours you can do this prior to the practical assessment for an extra cost. On completion of the course, you need to pass a practical driving assessment with our HVCBA assessor
