Getting started

You need to complete an appropriate knowledge test and an eye-sight test through the Roads and Maritime Services before training and assessment can begin. You must also obtain a HVCBA Learners Log Book and Heavy Vehicle Guide book. If you are unsure about what licence to obtain or if you are eligible to apply please contact us.

Assessments

Full competency assessment requires an instructor and assessor to complete the final assessment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) or current competency (CT) applies if you've been taught to drive by a parent, relative or friend. This can apply for for LR-HR licences only. RPL or CT does not apply when you're training for HC or MC licences.

There are two ways to be assessed:

  1. Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) accredited driving instructor can provide driver training followed by an RMS assessment.

  2. RTO (registered training organisation), driving instruction followed by an a driving assessment, conducted by our RMS Accredited HVCBA assessor, we have two RMS approved assessment routes in Armidale and Coffs Harbour.
