This unit of competency is the update version and replaces Gold Card

Successful completion of our Telehandler Training Course will enable you to enter the workplace as a trained and competent Telehandler with a capacity of 3 tonnes or less.

Why complete this Telehandler Course?

SafeWork NSW states that anyone operating a telehandler that has a capacity less than three tonne must be trained and competent in operating the telehandler and attachments. This course will give you the training and competency to operate a telehandler with specific attachments.

Entry requirements

Age: Minimum 18 years of age

Vehicle licence prerequisite: You need a Class C car licence to drive a telescopic handler. Find out about different licence classes.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements:

Trainees must have adequate English language skills to safely complete tasks relating to working with telehandlers, such as being able to:

  • Read and correctly interpret safe work method statements, telehandler specifications and load charts

  • Complete required documentation relevant to telehandler operation, including completing risk assessments and telehandler logbook entries

  • Ensure that the safe working load of the telehandler isn’t exceeded

  • Speak English clearly in order to explain, describe and verify sometimes complex needs and issues.

  • 100 Points of ID

    Appropriate footwear — fully enclosed shoes or boots.

    Payment for the balance of your course fee — either cash or EFTPOS payment.

  • New England Training and Assessment provides flexible format for learning with assessment activities that provide every opportunity for participants to demonstrate their skills and abilities. We can tailor the training and assessment program to assist people with learning issues.

    We offer flexible courses during the week or on weekends. We can organise a specific on site training for employers with minimum numbers.

How to register for telehandler operator training

  • You need to complete a form to book in your staff and send us a purchase order.

  • Choose your training session from the option(s) below and pay your deposit to firm your place in the course.

    On payment of your deposit, you will get you course material via a link that we email to you.

    Important: You must register 3 days before your preferred training date to ensure your course placement is approved by our registered training organisation (RTO).

    Enrolment steps

    Select the training session you want to attend.

    Click ‘Add to Cart’, then go to the cart, and click ‘Checkout’.

    Read and check the Terms and Conditions, complete your personal details, and click ‘checkout’ to pay your $100 deposit. *

    After payment is made, you’ll then be taken to an ‘order confirmation’ page.

    Download the digital download zip file to access the student documentation. This link expires after 24 hours. We recommend you download the files immediately after you get the link.
