NETA accredited course, designed for anyone wanting to gain work as a skid steer operator in the earthmoving, infrastructure or building industry.
Our course includes both theory and practical training on an excavator, followed by an assessment.
Locations: Our skid steer operator course can be completed at your workplace or you can attend our training facility.
Course pre-requisites: Applicants must be 18 years or older. There are no other pre-requisites for this course.
Your trainer: You’ll be trained by an accredited trainer.

Two days for participants with no experience.
Most trainees take two days to complete the course but there is no minimum or maximum course length and the time. It all depends on the trainee’s skillset.

Your course assessment includes two parts:
Knowledge assessment
Written/oral exam with both short answer and multiple-choice questions. Each test contains critical questions which must be answered correctly.
Performance assessment
A driving assessment that includes a pre-operation check, post-operation checks, and general skid steer operations.
What if you don’t pass the assessments?
If you are not successful with completing the course, you are provided support and further training before you undergo another reassessment. If you need a second assessment, you only complete the tasks that you did not successfully complete in the first attempt.

Course outcome — your qualification
On successful completion of the excavator training course, you will receive an interim paper licence called a Notice of Satisfactory Skid Steer Operator Course Completion. This interim licence allows you to operate an excavator. The interim licence is valid for 60 days after the assessment date.
You will then receive an official Statement of Attainment and a photo card in the post. Your qualification will also be registered on the national database.
If you are not successful with completing the course, you are provided support and further training before you undergo another reassessment. If you need a second assessment, you only complete the tasks that you did not successfully complete in the first attempt.
